Abstract

Traditionally, companies used to select technologies as part of their strategy, but presently, technology itself exerts unprecedented influence on strategic decisions. This has transformed the fundamentals of business management, converting the industrial economy into today's ubiquitous digital economy. The impact of this "new economy" varies across sectors, with the financial industry leading by embracing the Internet as an innovative distribution channel. The evolution of the Internet has facilitated consistent growth, as the distribution of financial products no longer necessitates physical exchanges, given that money has existed in electronic form for some time. In this study, a brief analysis of online banking in Spain is conducted, exploring the strategies adopted by major financial institutions and the impact of this new avenue on their offerings of financial products.
